Leslie's Story For many
years, Leslie has been struggling with mental
illness. As a child, she spent her summers
at Camp Pinecrest, and then in 1989, she
began living in a Bridgewell home.
Over the past 16 years, Leslie
has been receiving residential- and clinical-support
services.
Currently, she's living in
one of our supported living programs, where
staff is available to "assist"
her in daily activities rather than "structure"
her days. Leslie likes her independence.
At home, she cooks, cleans and prepares
and takes her medications independently.
Her favorite part of the day is hanging
out with other residents with whom she has
formed strong friendships.
Leslie is an active participant
at CHARISMA, as well as a member of the
Friendship
Club. She is also a board member of
the Mental Health Human Rights Committee.
Leslie leads a full and active
life, and one day soon, she hopes she'll
be able to achieve complete independent
living.
